Montessori Schoolwide Enrichment Program
The goal of our Schoolwide Enrichment Program is to develop the strengths and talents of all students while building a community of life-long learners.
Three types of enrichment are offered by our gifted specialist, Mrs. Jackie Bonfield.
Providing Equal Access to Curricular Enrichment
Available to: All students, all grades
Description: Monthly SUPRA ET ULTRA enrichment worksheets and activities for developing critical and creative thinking skills as well as visual-spatial talents. This work can be used to supplement class work or can or can be completed outside of school.
Purpose: Allows students to explore and enhance various thinking and reasoning skills while evaluating their own level of engagement and attitudes toward different types of thinking.
Accountability: Students who participate in P.E.A.C.E. will be acknowledged for their efforts on the Supra Et Ultra (Above and Beyond) Superstars page of The BBT which will be updated monthly. In addition, their name will be placed in a drawing for a monthly prize. All students who participate in P.E.A.C.E. will receive a certificate at the end of the year.
Intended outcome: Students will demonstrate self-awareness of thinking skills, abilities and attitudes.
Purposeful And Challenging Enrichment
Available to: Students identified as gifted in specific academic areas
Description: Depending on the needs of the individual student and available resources, enrichment is provided through:
- differentiated curriculum in the regular classroom
- an online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
- independent learning contracts
- independent projects
- service learning
- career connections and investigations
Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students to strengthen and expand their targeted academic talents through purposeful and challenging work.
Accountability: Students will meet with Mrs. Bonfield periodically to develop and maintain a Talent Portfolio which includes work samples, reflective analysis, self-assessments, goal statements, and evidence of personal accountability.
Intended outcome: Students will demonstrate accountability and growth in academic performance and self-awareness.
Academic & Creative Excellence
Available to: Students who meet the criteria for superior cognitive ability identification
Description: Gifted services will be delivered 1 or 2 days per week, every other week in the gifted resource room through an ongoing pullout program. The curriculum is designed to align with Ohio’s Learning Standards and meet NAGC (National Association of Gifted Children) Standards of Excellence for Gifted Education.
Purpose: To provide specialized services and learning experiences tailored to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of cognitively gifted students.
Accountability: Students will have a Written Education Plan (WEP) that identifies their academic and affective needs, gifted services they will receive, goal statements that address both their academic and affective needs for the year, and progress reporting. Students that are identified as gifted in specific academic areas in addition to being cognitively gifted will also maintain a Talent Portfolio which includes work samples, reflective analysis, self-assessments, goal statements, and evidence of personal accountability.
Intended outcome: Students will demonstrate self-awareness of academic and social abilities, skills and traits; growth in creative and critical thinking skills; and improved academic performance.
