Closing Time: 2018-2019

The 2018-2019 school year has come to an end! With this closing, there will be many tearful goodbyes.  We will also celebrate and set our eyes on the future welcoming many new faces to the PRM community.  These last few weeks have been full of memorable events and rites of passage.  Last week on May 17th, students celebrated at Field day with human hungry hippos, face painting, smoothies, baseball, gaga pit, tug-o-war, ring toss, balloon toss and the “fill the bucket with a sponge” relay race that required super human strength to run up a hill repeatedly, a feat every PRM student managed with heart and speed while the adults nearly fainted with one walk up the hill.  While the 6-9 and 9-12 students had fun at field day, Kindergartners traveled to French Park. On Monday, May 20th, students were given a vision for the next year when they received an invitation to their new community for next year on Transition day.  On Wednesday, May 22nd, 6-9 communities traveled to the zoo while parents of sixth graders and their teachers gathered for the 6th grade recognition ceremony where tears and hugs were filled with memories. The most amazing thing about children is the simple fact that they grow and cannot be stopped.  At PRM, students have learned that PRM R.O.C.K.S. Respect. Ownership. Compassion. Kindness.  Safety.  They have learned their place in a larger world to not just gather knowledge of the academic disciplines, but of being a whole person that makes a difference.

“With heroic heart, they did their valiant part.” (Inscription on a tile from the original Pleasant Ridge School building now in the atrium at Pleasant Ridge Montessori).

A special thank you to Mr. David, PRM’s Technology instructor, who has kept the students wondering everyday what character he will dress up as in car line as he signs in the preschoolers. Thank you for making so many mornings so happy.  Special thanks to Angela Robertshaw for making PRM a community learning center not just a school building. Thank you to each and every one of the PRM staff who gave so much of their time, their efforts and their gifts.

“With heroic heart, they did their valiant part.”

This year we say thank you to staff members who are leaving for their hard work and dedication: Shawn Williams, Cindi Kent, Kenya Sanders, Alia Williams-Tolbert, Anna Cornacchione, Madeline Muhammad, Michelle McCollom, Rebecca Scheerer, Lisa Kunze, Angela Robertshaw, Melissa Ridley, Ken Jump.  There are not enough words in the dictionary or a thesaurus to describe our gratitude and how much we will miss you.

“With heroic heart, they did their valiant part.”
