Hello PRM Community,
This month we are focusing on Goal Setting with Grit; our teachers are working with the children to develop individual and community goals. The staff is also working on developing their own individual goals to support student learning. We will then develop action plans or steps to meet our goals. Without that laser focus on goals, all that is asked of us (as children or adults) can be overwhelming.
This week’s video is a clip of an interview with Will Smith. In one section of the video he says, “You don’t set out to build a wall. You don’t say I’m going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built.’
You don’t start there. You say, ‘I’m going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid. You do that every single day. And soon you have a wall.”
This quote speaks to the perseverance that is required to succeed, but it is also a reminder not to become overwhelmed with the long range goal and demands; instead, focus on each step and doing the very best that you can with each step.
The children should have brought their midterms home on Friday afternoon; as you review these with them, please help us to reinforce the message of setting goals and concrete steps to achieve goals by talking about what the children want to do improve or deepen their understanding.
