Outdoor Learning

Outdoor play is an essential component to the Montessori experience. The PRM Community deserves a space that reflects the needs of our diverse population of students and the adults who support them. It is time for us to pour some love into the PRM outdoor space and we need the support of the broader Pleasant Ridge Montessori Community to make that happen!

We envision a vibrant, inclusive outdoor space where every child feels safe and has the opportunity to explore, move and play.

What does reimagining our outdoor space look like?

  • A new garden near the preschool playground
  • Transforming the current garden space into a turf field/mini-pitch
  • A future phase to upgrade playground equipment

FAQ’s about Outdoors Reimagined

What exactly are you describing?

We hope to reimagine our current outdoor space, giving students the chance to explore both natural elements and traditional playground components. While specifics have not been decided, we envision new climbing structures, field space for sports, shaded seating, nature scapes, and more, allowing for students to have space to safely run, explore, and play outside at PRM.

What will happen to our current play structure and garden?

The current play structure will be removed and recycled. We are also working with our amazing garden partner, Imago, to reconfigure the garden space in a way that maximizes recess play options, while still meeting the needs of outdoor education and nature exploration. Every effort will be made to preserve all the heart that students, families and staff have poured into the current garden.

What’s the budget for a project of this scope?

Early estimates put us in the range of $400,000 to $500,000 when completely reimagining the playground, garden, playscape and field space.

Where is the funding coming from?

Thanks to the generous support of the PRM Foundation and PRM Boosters, approximately $50,000 has already been raised for the project! Fundraising efforts will include donations from PRM families and the community, grants and partnership with local businesses/foundations/sports teams as well as fundraisers.

I’d like to sponsor part of this new outdoor space. How can I contribute?

We would welcome any sponsorships or donations. We even have opportunities to advertise your business in this new space. Please reach out to [email protected] to discuss it further.

What is the timeline?

We expect this to be a multi-phase project over the course of a few school years. Based on interest and fundraising, we expect to have Phase 1 completed at the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

I’d like to get involved!

If you’ve got time or talent to give, there are volunteer opportunities for you! We currently need a team to research and write grants, solicit business sponsorships, and participate on the playground committee. Wanting to get your hands dirty? Stay tuned for more opportunities as the project scope is defined. Sign up on the form below.

How can my student get involved?

We encourage all students to complete the above survey, ensuring their voice is heard when decisions are made. We anticipate future opportunities for students to vote on playground elements and put their unique stamp on the new outdoor experience.

How can I get in contact with the playground committee?

Please reach out, we’d love to hear from you – 513.307.8229 (call/text) or [email protected]
